Remote Contract Senior Human Factors Engineer

As a Senior Human Factors Engineer you will work remotely for one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe, and contribute directly to nuclear and radiological safety, ensuring the ongoing support and protection of the fleet and the nation.

About the Role

For over a century, engineers have shaped Devonport Dockyard to meet the Royal Navy's needs. Now, your expertise is needed to sustain and improve the dockyard for the next hundred years.
Joining the diverse Safety Engineering Team, you'll play a key role in developing and implementing modern safety standards for the UK Naval Nuclear Propulsion Programme. Your responsibilities may include:

  • Conducting human factors assessments to support nuclear safety evaluations.

  • Designing and developing administrative arrangements critical for maintaining on-site nuclear safety.

  • Supporting the ergonomic design of engineering equipment, technology, and facilities.

  • Authoring and reviewing technical documentation.

This role offers challenging and rewarding opportunities, a supportive team environment, and the chance to grow your career in a dynamic, high-demand field.

What We're Looking For

To excel in this role, you'll need:

  • A qualification in Ergonomics, Occupational Psychology, or an Applied Psychology-related discipline.

  • Human factors experience in high-hazard industries, such as safety assessments, human reliability analysis, engineering design, training development, or technical report writing.

  • Chartered status or a willingness to work towards professional accreditation with the IEHF or BPS.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders and senior managers.

  • Leadership and mentoring experience is essential.
