1. Start with a Morning Routine

Practices such as meditation or journaling on the train into work, or a quick morning workout can help you feel energised and clear-headed. If you’re short on time, even five minutes of mindfulness can make a difference.

2. Set Clear Priorities

Start by listing everything you need to accomplish and then highlight the top three priorities for the day. Focus on these high-impact, Most Valuable Tasks (MVT) first to ensure you’re working on what truly matters.

3. Block Your Time

Time blocking in your calendar is a powerful technique to structure your day. Allocate specific time slots for different activities, such as meetings, deep work, and breaks. For instance:

9:00 AM - 10:30 AM: Most Valuable Task 1

10:30 AM - 10:45 AM: Break

10:45 AM - 12:00 PM: Most Valuable Task 2

12:00 PM - 1:00 PM: Lunch

Etc

This method ensures you have dedicated focus time and helps prevent multitasking.

4. Take Regular Breaks

The human brain isn’t designed to focus for hours on end. Use techniques like the Pomodoro Technique (25 minutes of work followed by a 5-minute break) to stay refreshed and avoid burnout. Incorporate movement, hydration, or a quick walk up and down the stairs!

5. Embrace Flexibility

While planning is crucial, it’s essential to remain adaptable. Unexpected tasks or emergencies may arise. Build a buffer into your schedule to accommodate these disruptions without derailing your day.

6. Review and Reflect

At the end of each day, take 5-10 minutes to review your accomplishments. Reflect on what went well and what could be improved. This practice not only boosts your sense of achievement but also helps you plan better for the next day.
